Nigerian star Tiwa Savage set to make historic record

While appearing on The Good Morning Britain Show, Tiwa Savage spoke about several things including her journey to superstardom

Award-winning Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage is set to become the first-ever female Afro-beats artist to headline the Wembley Arena in the UK.

Tiwa is set to headline the Wembley OVO Arena on November 26, 2023, in a historic performance she promises will be unforgettable. The Wembley Arena holds a capacity of 13,000.

While appearing on The Good Morning Britain Show, Tiwa Savage spoke about several things including her journey to superstardom, the influence of her Nigerian roots on her music, performing at Prince Charles' coronation, and her upcoming show in the UK.

 

On the phenomenal rise of Afro beats, the Nigerian star highlighted she felt Afro beats' international fame is a full circle as other African music such as Soul had already broken barriers.

"I think Afro beats is really like the beginning for like popular black music. So when you think of Hip Hop, RnB, Soul, it really all stems from Africa. It really is a full circle moment to see Afro beats getting the attention and limelight it's getting right now," the 'All Over' hit maker candidly said.

Speaking about her upcoming concert at the Wembley Arena the 43-year-old artist couldn't hide her excitement and pride.

She went on to recount how first time in Wembley and how she couldn't wait to give the performance of a lifetime.

 

"The funny thing is it's actually another full circle moment. I grew up with my family at Wembley, I got kicked out of X Factor at Wembley back in 2006 and now I'm coming back to shut it down!" Tiwa proudly said as she spoke of her upcoming concert.

She sweetly went on to add, "The moral of this story is when they tell you no, you come back and show them why they should have told you yes,"

Tiwa Savage was born in Nigeria where she grew up until she left at the age of 11 for her secondary and university education in the UK.

According to Tiwa Savage, her Nigerian roots are imprinted in her music and she always blends English with Yoruba to showcase her dual influences.

She also shared how honoured and delighted she felt having performed at  King Charles III's coronation ceremony. Another huge fit for her as she was the first Nigerian artist to grace such a stage.

"It was beautiful, such an amazing moment to represent the commonwealth and just to be on that stage. I was nervous the first few seconds but soon as I started singing it all went away," said the artist.
