Idris Elba's wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba is opening up on the struggles she has had to endure being married to such a high-profile Hollywood celebrity.
Sabrina who also happens to be in the same industry as Idris revealed that even though she's an actress and model she has had a difficult time finding her identity as the famous British actor's wife.
The philanthropist revealed these during an episode of The Break podcast where she starred as a guest.
According to the 34-year-old model, critics constantly try to silence her voice and put her in the actor's shadow.
She went on to detail how over the years she has tried to maintain her own identity, outside of her husband's famous name saying.
"It's important to me to maintain my own identity and sometimes that can be hard when someone else's identity is so strong and so strong," the social media personality candidly said.
Sabrina described how on occasions she has been treated small by people who feel like she should just be a trophy wife and have no opinions as well as the attitude she had perceived over the years.
"I'm not going to change my identity... It was this attitude I was feeling towards myself of 'there's no reason you should be speaking up or talking about things you care about because you're only here because of him' and I remember thinking that's your prerogative, I'm still going to say and talk and be whoever I want to be," the actress said firmly.
She also mentioned that she stopped checking her Instagram comments due to all the negative clutter that was left in her comments section seemingly due to their 16-year age difference.
The Somali-American star met Idris during a jazz party in Vancouver Canada.
According to her, he stuck out because she could tell he was different from the other black men in the area.
The two ended up dating and got engaged on February 10, 2018, during a screening of his film Yardie at an East London cinema.
They later tied the knot in 2019 at the Ksar Char Bagh Hotel in Marrakesh, at a star-studded invite-only event where Nigerian superstar Davido performed.
