Viral Somali citizen Nasra Abukar Ali, who is currently being referred to as the 'slowest athlete of all time' has responded to the mockery and backlash she's been receiving.

Nasra went viral after a video of her running painfully slow during a 100M race that was held at the World University Games in China went viral online.

In a statement shared online, Nasra tried defending herself by noting that she was injured during the race and that's why she was extremely slow. She went on to wonder why she was being criticized yet she'd represented her country well despite being injured.

“Somalis do not deserve to be represented in a running competition, I ran with a sprained leg, but I am criticized,” Nasra clearly oblivious of the magnitude of the situation calmly said.

In a video showcasing the sporting event, in her qualifying race, Nasra Abukar was immediately left behind by the other runners and finished about 10 seconds after the winner.

Despite being painfully slow and dead last, she did a little skip in the air as she crossed the finish line.

It was claimed that Nasra's clocking time was the ‘slowest-ever’ in international competition. Her time was over 10 seconds slower than her fellow competitors.

In a statement issued by the Somali Ministry of Youth and Sports suspended Khadija Aden Dahir, the chair of the Somali Athletics Federation, citing abuse of power.

It also said that “Nasra Abukar Ali is not a runner”.

Following the embarrassing performance the Somali Ministry of Youth and Sports has suspended the chairwoman of the country’s athletics federation after viral footage of an untrained sprinter competing in Chengdu, China, on Tuesday, August 1, circulated online.
