Last weekend, a budding rap artist, Diana Wairimu aka Wanja Kihii was the talk of the street after she released a diss track aimed at numerous artists.

What fascinated many was not only the way she sang the song but also why she decided to choose her stage name - given that in Kikuyu, the term Kihii is a derogatory term for an uncircumcised man.

In an exclusive telephone interview with Moses Sagwe, the beauty opened up about the reasons for choosing to use that name despite being well aware of its implications.

Wairimu who released the song criticizing and mocking artists with the title 'Zebra' said that she knows the meaning of the name "Kihii" but she decided to use it because it is a unique name of its kind.

“Mimi naitwa Diana Wairimu kutoka Nyeri lakini napenda kuitwa Wanja Kihii juu mimi napenda kupanda miti. Ilmradi ni mimi, siwezi hisi kama kuna ubaya wa kutumia jina hilo popote. Wanja Kihii ni bora kuliko Diana Wairimu."

Speaking about the song that gave her sudden fame after many people spread it on the internet, Wairimu said that despite many people knowing it as a song mocking artists, the song itself is called 'Zebra'.

However, Wairimu admitted that she is an artist who can do everything from comedy, rapping, and everything as long as it is in the art bracket.

“Ngoma inaitwa Zebra juu natema mistari kama zebra. Hiyo ngoma ukweli ni diss track. Mimi ni kila kitu, kutoka usanii, tiktoker, ucheshi.

Lakini huu ndio wimbo wangu wa pili, wa kwanza ndio nilitoka unaitwa Wanja Kihii," she said and admitted that Zebra was her second song that had given her fame.

Wairimu also added that she does her activities in Nyeri but also in Nairobi.
