On Monday, President William Ruto praised his deputy for making a fantastic speech.

The Head of State described how Rigathi Gachagua used to ask him to translate remarks made by outsiders.

"When foreigners were speaking, he used to ask me to tell him what they were saying and I used to guide and explain to him properly," he said.

Kumbe alikuwa ananienjoy," Ruto added.

This loose translates to: "He has now adopted the English language he was asking me to translate. He must have been making fun of me".

Gachagua has long made it known that he once had trouble understanding and speaking English.

The Deputy President taunted the audience about how the Luo Nyanza region's population has an amazing command of the English language last month, in his customary funny style.

In a same vein, the DP joked that Interior PS Raymond Omollo has been bothering him by "speaking a lot of English" and asked the Nyanza residents to let the Interior PS know that he is simply a "common" man.
