Old Mutual Towers, through their socials, have shared a statement reassuring citizens that all is well after the iconic UAP building located in Upper Hill, Nairobi caught fire during the midnight fireworks display as Kenyans excitedly ushered in the New Year.

A raging fire and cloud of thick black smoke could be seen from one corner of the towering building as onlookers who were enjoying the 2024 fireworks display recorded both in a state of confusion and still reeling from the delight of seeing another year.

Videos of the burning building have been doing rounds online, leading the building's social media team to release a statement.

In their statement, Old Mutual's team acknowledged there was a small fire but assured Kenyans that all was well.

"We acknowledge there was a minor incident after the New Year Fireworks celebration at the Old Mutual Tower," part of the statement read.

They went on to thank the onlookers for notifying them and reassuring them that all was well and they were still deep in a celebratory mood.

 

"This was on the balcony of a top floor and it has since been contained. We thank all our celebrants for the notifications and we wish you all a Happy 2024. #We Were Lit," the last of their statement on Instagram read.

Shortly afterwards, they shared another post depicting a wonderful display of fireworks as they went on to wish people a joyous and prosperous New Year.

"Cheers to a brand-new year filled with endless possibilities, laughter, and unforgettable moments!

Let's embrace new beginnings and make 2024 our best year yet.​#HappyNewYear #OMFireworks," their post read.
