Joan Chelimo, The wife of Gervais Hakizimana, Kelvin Kiptum's coach has shared what their plans were before his untimely demise.
Gervais died alongside Kiptum in an accident on the Eldoret-Kaptagat Road.
The couple was planning to take their child to school together.
Speaking during an interview with NTV, the grief stricken widow shared they had been in communication the enire day before the accident happened.
"At around 1 pm, he said he was going to meet his friend and at 5 pm Kiptum called him to go and carry out some errands together,"
According to Chelimo, the two had lived together for 10 years as man and wife.
The couple was supposed to move to France after the Rotterdam Marathon.
"He was a hero to me, my baby and to all Kenyans and other athletics. He was really planning to help other athletes," said Chelimo
Gervais moved from France to Kenya to coach Kiptum.
"He really wanted that world record and was also fighting for other two records," said Chelimo.
The family of the young coach has arrived in the country to prepare for their kin's burial.
