Renowned Nigerian singer Asake has sparked controversy on social media after releasing his brand-new video accompanying the chart-topping song 'Only Me'.

Asake, who is signed under Olamide's YBNL, announced the release of the video on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

The music video was unveiled with Asake adorned in priestly attire, serving in a setting reminiscent of the sacred space within a church.

To complement the spectacle, his video crew mirrored the respectful attire of altar servers, including obedient assistants aiding priests during religious ceremonies.

The video has stirred a storm of condemnation on social media, particularly on the X platform, where users strongly criticised Asake, who identifies as a Muslim, for continuing to disrespect the Christian faith.

Some users referred to an incident from his 'Bandana' music video, where black goats entered a church, as additional evidence supporting their claims.

Responding to an X user identified as @Solomon_Buchi, someone wrote; "Asake continues to disrespect the Christian faith in his music videos. Pretending to administer the Eucharist, wearing priestly attire for a music video that has no connection to Christianity is disrespectful. In his Bandana video, he shows black goats entering a church, with split fire tongues above strange people.

"Asake, I believe, is a Muslim. Why doesn't he go even further to disgrace his Islamic faith in this manner? Why do Christians even listen to these musicians who blatantly disrespect Christianity?"

@sire_hades said; "This is not the first time, Asake, Olamide, and the entire YBNL disrespect Christians. Asake is a Muslim, let him shoot his videos in the mosque wearing the garb of faith. If you are a Christian and still a fan of Asake, you are a big fool in business!"
