Ahead of the long rains, the government has identified areas at risk of flooding.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, in a statement on Wednesday, highlighted that regions along lakes and rivers, low-lying areas, and places with inadequate drainage are susceptible to flooding.

In Western Kenya, communities residing near lakes and rivers in HomaBay, Siaya, Busia, Nyando, Nyakach, and Muhoroni are at risk of flooding.

Additionally, low-lying areas like Migori, Kakamega, and Vihiga face the threat of flooding if the daily precipitation exceeds the current levels.
