Recently freed dancehall artist Vybz Kartel has hinted at the possibility of venturing into politics and running for a parliamentary seat.

In his first interview, two weeks after being released from prison, where he served a 13-year sentence, Kartel mentioned that the current state of Jamaican society might compel him to run for Parliament.

The musician whose real name is Adidja Palmer, made these comments during a live TikTok session with his lawyer, Isat Buchanan.

According to a local radio station, Nationwide Radio, Kartel indicated that his electoral constituency would be South St. Catherine, which has been represented by Fitz Jackson of the PNP party since 1994.

“We’ll see,” the dancehall star Vybz Kartel said. “I might just run for Parliament because sometimes talking doesn’t get you anywhere. Sometimes you have to get involved, but we’ll see,” he stated.

The idea of running for Parliament came as Kartel voiced concerns about various injustices in society. Kartel stressed that his criticism is not directed at any specific political party.

Kartel, 48, who has been out of prison for two weeks now, has been making headlines both locally and internationally since his release.

Although he hasn’t made a definite decision, he confirmed the possibility with his lawyer Isat, who said, “That’s an idea, you know,” to which Kartel responded, “I know, and I’m serious, but we’ll see.”
