WCB Wasafi artist D Voice has shocked many by revealing a harsh truth he experienced while in South Africa with his boss.
D Voice traveled to South Africa two weeks ago, accompanying Diamond Platnumz to celebrate the birthday of his daughter, Tiffah Dangote.
The up-and-coming artist revealed that upon arriving in South Africa, everyone flocked to Diamond for photos, while he himself was only stared at and treated like a curiosity.
However, he mentioned that he received some recognition and attention from fans in Kenya.
"My trip to South Africa with Diamond taught me many things I didn't know. We connected flights and landed in Nairobi before boarding another one to South Africa. In Kenya, I was somewhat recognized by a few fans, but in South Africa, I was recognized by just one person, while others looked at me in surprise," he said.
"When I went to the mall with Diamond to buy gifts for his children, I realized that people didn't know me at all—I was just wandering around. I learned that there are still angles we haven’t reached musically. At that party, I didn't hear a single song from our artists, not even from WCB or Bongo in general," he disclosed.
He mentioned that the closest song he heard was a recent hit by a Ugandan artist, "Hozambee."
"I had to start introducing myself after realizing that I’m still a rookie over there. It occurred to me that there are big artists here in Kenya who, if taken to places like South Africa, might not even fill a venue," he added.
