Artist Bahati has claimed that he earns more money than some MPs in Kenya.
Speaking to entertainment journalists in Kirinyaga County last weekend during a promotional event, Bahati hinted that his decision to enter politics was not motivated by a desire for more money, as his current earnings surpass those of an MP.
The artist further joked that many MPs do not own a luxury car like the Range Rover he bought for his wife, Diana Marua, to celebrate their 7th wedding anniversary.
"I still have the ability to help the people of Mathare without being their MP. I want to go back there with my foundation and continue assisting them; we don’t have to wait to be elected. Because I make more money than an MP. If an MP earns 900k, that’s nothing to me,” he said.
“There are many MPs who don’t even drive the Range Rover that I bought for my wife. My motivation wasn’t about money; I simply wanted to make a positive impact, and I can still do that even without being an MP. But if given the opportunity, I would do even more,” he added.
Bahati entered politics and tried his luck during the 2022 elections. He ran for the Mathare parliamentary seat on the Jubilee party ticket but finished in third place, behind the winner from ODM and the runner-up from UDA.
