Globetrotting Kenyan YouTuber turned entrepreneur Gertrude Awino Njeri, widely known as Miss Trudy, has addressed rumours suggesting that her marriage to Ghanaian YouTuber Kobina Ackon, also known as Wode Maya, is on the verge of collapse.
Speculation about their relationship troubles began circulating after Miss Trudy made some candid remarks during a recent interview with a popular Ghanaian content creator.
In the interview, she revealed that due to their busy and demanding schedules, she and Wode Maya rarely get to spend as much time together as they would like, often traveling separately for their respective work commitments.
In response to the swirling rumours, Trudy released her own video, clarifying that her words had been taken out of context.
She explained that she was simply being honest in her answers during the interview and that there was no hidden agenda behind her statements.
She emphasized that she decided to make the video because of the online backlash Maya was receiving.
"He asked me a couple of questions, and I answered truthfully. For example, he asked me, 'Do you and Wode Maya spend enough time together?' And I said no because that's the truth. We don't spend enough time together because he's always traveling... And I also end up traveling a lot," she explained.
Trudy also addressed concerns about her mental health, admitting that she had been struggling with the adjustment to her new life in Ghana, which hadn't been as smooth as she had hoped.
She candidly shared, "Another question was how I was doing, and I said not very well. I was depressed, and that’s life. One thing people do online is pretend to have a perfect life. My life is not perfect. I have some ups and downs."
She continued, "Moving to a new country is one of the challenges. I was born and raised in Nairobi, and then I moved to Ghana. It comes with its own set of challenges. I don’t have friends, the food, culture, and the weather are different."
In the closing part of her video, Trudy defended Wode Maya against online critics who had accused him of various things, including being a narcissist and not respecting or caring for her.
These accusations ranged from claims that Maya had abandoned Trudy in Miami to allegations that he spent lavishly on his sister’s wedding while giving Trudy a subpar ceremony.
Trudy dismissed the rumors of a split and reassured fans that she and her husband were working on improving their relationship.
"I wouldn’t say Maya is a narcissist. He’s definitely not perfect, and neither am I. I just want you guys to be kind. We are two different people from different cultures, and we are learning from our mistakes. We are going to do better," she said.
She concluded, "I don’t want my honesty to be the reason someone is seen as wicked. I wouldn’t have made this video if Maya wasn’t being attacked left, right, and center."
