SpaceX billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new platform, X TV, aimed at competing with YouTube in the video streaming space.
X TV, a new streaming service designed to rival YouTube with unique content and live events, recently entered its beta phase and is now available to users.
On September 3, Elon Musk announced the release of the X TV beta program on his platform X (formerly Twitter).
The launch may be part of Musk's broader strategy to expand X into a comprehensive "everything service," moving beyond social media.
X TV allows users to stream shared videos on X directly to their smart TVs, similar to YouTube.
The platform will also feature news, photo content, and live events.
X TV is available on devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Google TV, and LG TV.
In the Google Play Store description, X TV is presented as a "trusted global digital city square" aiming to bring "valuable and engaging content" to living rooms.
In terms of appearance and functionality, X TV closely resembles YouTube. The business model is also comparable, as the app is funded by advertising.
Paid features, such as verification through blue checkmarks on the X platform, have not yet been integrated into X TV, so the service remains free to use for now.
