Actress Winfred Bwire Ndubi, famously known for her role as Dida in the TV series Sultana, has passed away, her family has confirmed.

Winnie Bwire, who had been courageously fighting cancer for an extended period, died on Thursday morning at a hospital in Turkey, where she was undergoing treatment.

The family’s announcement expressed deep sorrow and gratitude to the Kenyan public for their unwavering support throughout her illness.

"With heavy hearts and acceptance of God's will, we announce the passing of Winfred Bwire Ndubi, who lost her battle with cancer on September 5, 2024, while receiving treatment in Turkey," the statement read.

They continued, "We are immensely grateful for your support, prayers, and generosity during her treatment. We will provide more details at the appropriate time. May God bless you all."

Months before her death, Winnie had sought public assistance to raise Kshs 7 million for her treatment abroad.

She had been battling metastatic breast cancer for two years and was in urgent need of specialized care overseas.

In an Instagram appeal, she shared, “Dear Friends, I hope your Christmas season is going well. I am reaching out for help to obtain further treatment abroad that is crucial to saving my life 😊. Life is costly and unpredictable. One moment you’re thriving, and the next, you face challenges you never imagined. We don’t have to face these alone; it takes a village. Please support me in this healing journey by contributing towards the Ksh 7 million needed. Your support means the world to me. God bless you.”

A few weeks prior to her passing, Winnie had requested an additional Ksh 5 million for specialized treatment.

Her cancer, initially presenting as a lump under her armpit, was diagnosed as ductal carcinoma in situ, a rare cancer affecting the milk ducts.
