'I wanted to bleach my skin,' Akothee

Singer Akothee says she was tempted to bleach her skin to become a little lighter.

The singer said this in an Instagram session with Oscar award winning star, Lupita Nyong'o

"I tried to change my skin colour. We were living in Nairobi. I was still married  and I used to go to church and see all these lightskin mothers. I didn't know they were bantus, its adaptation features of surviving in this planet earth. Thats why most Nilotes are dark because of too much sun," she told Lupita

"Little did I know that my skin colour is determined by the amount of melanin"

Akothee was speaking to Lupita about her children's book Sulwe, which will be animated to become a Netflix film.
