Chris Rock's mother Rosalie Rock has spoken for the first time after her son was slapped by Will Smith at the 94th Academy Awards.

While speaking to WIS TV Rosalie described Will's action as 'making his wife's day'

"You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye, and you went and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened."

She added that she first thought the slap was staged for the show;

"When he slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. He really slapped me because when you hurt my child, you hurt me."

"No one heard his speech. No one was able to just be in the moment because everyone was sitting there like, 'What just happened?'

Days after the incident, Chris addressed the issue at a comedy show saying;

 "I'm still processing what happened."

Chris was joking about Jada Pinkett's bald head when Will walked towards him and slapped him telling him to keep his wife off his mouth. Pinkett has been living with Alopecia, a disorder that causes loss of hair.

Previously, Chris' brother Kenny said that the comedian had no idea about Jada's condition and that "if he knew that she had alopecia ... he wouldn't make a joke about that. But he didn't know."
