Fashion Meets Art is a collaborative initiative by Kenya Fashion Awards and Kioko Art Gallery where fashion designers and creative professionals will through a 2 weeks exhibition present their creative works on the subjects of fashion and art. The exhibition closes on 14 th October, 2018.
The main objective of this initiative is to create new opportunities for the creative industry professionals through highlighting their work, networking and tapping into new markets.
Kenya Fashion Awards each year seeks to present something new and exciting in its quest to creating new opportunities for players within the industry. This year in collaboration with Kioko Art Gallery we have been launched under the theme “Fashion Meets Art” to celebrate the symbiotic relationship between the two
disciplines.
The creative industry is among the most dynamic sectors, providing new opportunities for developing countries to advance into emerging high-growth areas of the world economy.
Art infuses fashion with longevity as some of the world’s largest luxury brands are taking a distinct approach to engaging with art. Conversely, art also stands to benefit as fashion in the 21st century is an economic force in its own right; luxury conglomerates drive huge levels of consumer spending, it’s a mutually beneficial collaboration with commercial benefits.
This is a step towards creating new opportunities for the creative industry professionals through highlighting their work, networking and tapping into new markets. The initiative also recognizes that the creative works attracts tourists from different parts of the world.
This trend is gradually becoming one of the more sought after niche in the tourism markets. Tourists seek destinations in Africa that fulfill their needs, want and desires for new tastes in art, fashion and the overall experience of a destination’s culture that reflects its creativity, innovation and knowledge of the country.
Kioko Art Gallery is a newly opened, independent gallery in Kenya which aims to promote a contemporary view of African art by giving young artists and artists with unique perspectives a platform to display their work.
