As a man, your testosterone is a critical hormone in your body. Testosterone is responsible for bone density, muscle mass, hair and generally feeling good.

As a teenager it's what was responsible for breaking your voice and setting you on your path to becoming a man. But around the age of thirty your testosterone levels do start lowering down.

Though this is natural you could be lowering your testosterone levels yourself and you might not even know it. Here are eight ways you might be doing it.

1.Soy

If you are someone who does take a lot of soy you might want to look into this. Soy does contain phytoestrogens which increase your estrogen levels.

The higher your estrogen levels the lower your testosterone levels.

2. Steroids

For those of you who do take performance-enhancing drugs, you might want to take it slow. Your body produces the appropriate amount of testosterone that it needs.

Once you take steroids your testosterone levels go on overdrive telling your body you don't need anymore.

As a result, when you stop taking steroids your body stops producing the hormone resulting in low levels of testosterone.

3. Refined Carbs

Refined carbohydrates is basically bread, pasta, grains white rice things we all love to eat. A high intake of these products increases your insulin levels.

The higher your insulin levels the lower your testosterone levels.

4. Sugar

Yes, you heard me right sugar. According to a study done by Oxford University taking 75 grams of sugar a day reduces your testosterone levels by 25%. So you might want to take it slow on the soda.

5. Stress

Stress is your enemy. Do whatever you can to lower the stress levels you don't need it. Stress releases a hormone in your body called cortisol. Once your cortisol levels rise, your testosterone levels go down.

6. Beer

I know, I know you love beer but I'm sorry to have to tell you it might not love you back. One of the main ingredients to make beer is hops and hops has been found to have estrogen-like qualities.

Infact, hops has been used to help in increasing estrogen levels of women. The higher the estrogen levels the lower the testosterone.

7. Plastics

Plastic made products have a chemical known as B.P.A which emulate estrogen in your body. So when you purchase plastic products look for packs that say B.P.A free which is great but there are still more chemicals in the plastics that have the same effect.

A good way to prevent this is to avoid plastic products in total.

8. Obesity and meat

When you have a high-fat concentration, your body converts testosterone into estrogen. The higher the amount of fat in your body the higher the conversion rate. Not only that but the consumption of meats can cause an increase the amount of estrogen.

Chickens are fed soy which is the main source of protein for them. Chickens which are fed soy transfer phytoestrogens (a compound found in soy which increases your estrogen levels) to their eggs and body. To prevent this purchase chicken and eggs which are pasture raised.

You can take these products your not restricted just moderate your consumption of them. Take them less and less.
