Controversial gospel singer Willy Paul is one happy lad after finally bagging an African Musik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) 2016 award as Best Gospel Act – Africa.
Though he didn’t attend the event in Dallas, Willy Paul was super thrilled and excited after receiving the good news, not just because he managed to bring the trophy home, but also because this was his second nomination in the coveted awards.
The Fanya hitmaker was first nominated for the AFRIMMA awards second edition in 2014, in the Best Gospel Artiste, where he was facing off against Soweto Gospel Choir from South Africa, Uche Agu from Nigeria, No Tribe from Ghana and many others.
Sadly, Willy Paul did not win in this category, but he didn’t give up as he’s continued to drop new music which gets positive feedback from his fans, despite the many scandals he’s been involved in.
In AFRIMMA 2014, his fellow singer and frenemy Bahati won the coveted award, after being nominated in the first edition of the awards, where he emerged the winner after a massive number of votes from fans.
As we all know, one can’t talk about Willy Paul without mentioning the sex scandals he’s been involved in. His first scandal was in 2013 when a minor alleged he had raped her, and shortly thereafter other lasses came forward with similar allegations.
Some of the accusations leveled against the Tam Tam singer include: drinking alcohol, impregnating his girlfriend then abandoning her, asking for nude photos and videos from ladies, engaging in sex with multiple women, stealing Bahati’s songs and lyrics and making them his own and more.
Well, despite all the scandals, there is no doubt that Willy Paul is super talented and has a way of always getting youngins to like his music. After his AFRIMMA 2016 win, the singer/ dancer took to his social media to thank his fans and at the same time, took shots at his haters.
He shared a “thank you” post which he shared, with this caption:
