A 26-year-old man committed suicide after being jilted by his lover, a student at Moi University Kesses.

The deceased, Wayne Odhiambo Owino, was said to have gone to visit his girlfriend, a fourth year student late in the night but was unable to access the house after the girlfriend declined to open the door for him.

Confirming the incident, Langas Police Station OCPD Abduba Wako said Owino’s lifeless body was found on the second floor of an incomplete rental house at Hollywood Estate in the outskirts of Moi University where the girlfriend resides.

The deceased hanged himself using a mosquito net, said Wako, adding that the late Owino was found in possession of a Sudanese driving license and a passport.

“He hanged himself when the girlfriend refused to open the door for him, but we do not know exactly what transpired between the two that lead to loss of life,” said the OCPD.

He added that they have launched investigations to determine the truth because neighbours have different versions of the incident.

Wako said police from the nearby Kesses Police Station have already recorded statements from several witnesses.

The body was removed to Moi Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary to await post mortem.

Death incidences involving students in institutions of higher learning are on the increase. Two days ago, a student stabbed his girlfriend to death in Kaiboi Technical training Institute in Nandi County in what was suspected to be a love triangle.

Meanwhile Police in Magarini sub-county in Malindi are investigating an incident whereby a 13 year old boy from Agriculture Development Corporation (ADC) primary school committed suicide yesterday.

Confirming the incident Magarini sub-county police commander Mr. Gerald Barasa said that police are investigating the case to determine what led the boy take his life.

Speaking to the press on telephone the Police boss said the late Jackson changawa kiraho‘s body was found hanging on a nearby tree at Mtangani village where he lived with his relatives.
