The gospel industry has welcomed one of Kenya's popular rappers from the secular world.

Collo has turned his life around and given his life to Christ. For the first time he has spoken about how he came to make that decision.

Collo spoke to Groove Awards organisers about his journey.

"My long time girlfriend Phoebe Ida and now wife, challenged me. She told me, 'I'm going to church with your daughter and if you are not joining me, I don't know what we are doing together.'"

This sobered up the married rapper who is now famed for the hit single Bazokizo.

"For me that was just the defining moment. And I believe, according to me that is what led to my salvation, because family is key. When I got saved, I fell in love with being a father. I feel in love with life. I stopped surviving, I started living. I fell in love with my wife all over again," Collo narrated.

The rapper said he was prayed over by prophetess Purity Nekesa, he then went through discipleship classes, got baptized and then went back again for discipleship classes because "it is good to remind yourself not that I missed out on anything but because I would rather spend time with God. "

So, is the walk easy for the former Kleptomaniac rapper?

"It is not easy, but who said it is hard? The perception of salvation, especially to a certain generation of this nation is sooo bad. People think that nikiokoka nita acha kuhanya madame ama kukatia, nitaacha kukunywa, nitaacha kukua this cool guy. You sit down and wonder, kwani wewe unaenjoy kufanya hizo vitu zote mbaya? Christianity is supposed to be about Jesus Christ."
