Avril Lavigne is getting back in touch with her emo roots, and some of her fans are not pleased.
The Canadian artist recently unveiled some sinister looking promo art for her single I Fell In Love With the Devil.
Some of her Christian followers took to the comments to voice their opinions against the darkly themed imagery.
Lavigne dropped the fourth single from her album Head Above Water last month.
The ballad features lyrics like: 'I fell in love with the devil / And now I'm in trouble.'
'I fell in love with the devil / I'm underneath his spell / Someone send me an angel / To lend me a halo.
'I fell in love with the devil / Please, save me from this hell.'
While the lyrics seem to be comparing a toxic romance to the devil as opposed to actually declaring her love for Satan, Christian fans are still not pleased.
They particularly took issue with the promo images Lavigne posted Saturday to Instagram.
One image shows the Dumb Blonde artist from behind, sitting at a black piano in the middle of the woods, sporting a red gown with a long tulle train.
Another shows her in the same setting, wearing a black dress with a matching hooded cape and leather gloves, grasping a wooden crucifix in her hands.
One follower commented: 'Are u Christian? Or you are mocking of Jesús?'
Another wrote: 'You need Jesus... God saved you and blessed you with another opportunity to choose. Now you have this crap?
She continued: 'Get your soul right with Jesus. Only one who can save you, yet you hold his cross and blaspheme his name? I pray for your salvation.'
But not all of her fans were offended by the new look. Some in fact are celebrating it.
One fan enthusiastically wrote: 'GOTH AVRIL IS BACK Y'ALL BETTER STREAM THIS SINGLE OK.'
Although her style has evolved over the years, Lavigne became famous in the early 2000s with an edgy punk look and singles like Sk8er Boi, Complicated and I'm with You.
