Trina Mungai is an exceptional singer who has gone far and beyond to prove that she is in the music industry to win.
In an interview with Shaffie Weru and Adelle Onyango on Breakfast with the Stars, she revealed that she began singing in a church choir when she was 10 years of age where she met a lot of people and she would sing at the background.
She continued singing while in high school and she would get gigs to perform in various platforms where she was discovered by Atemi and Silayio in which she was given the opportunity to be a background singer at the age of 15.
The challenge that she had was that she had so much to give at the tender age and as she said in the interview, “the shoes were to big to fill” but since she had that potential to sing, she she found an opportunity to grow but she had to go on singing since it was her dream and passion.
Some of the Kenyan artistes that motivated her and grew her talent are the likes of Atemi, Silayio and the legendary Erick Wainaina. Later on she went for Safaricom Live tour audition where she was adviced to try and audition by Silayio in which she was among the chosen finalist including Webbie, Lydia and Jane.
She went ahead to perform with the big names in the music industry in Kenya like P Unit and Gospel artist Gloria Muliro.
After the tour she met with Katu Change the guitarist whereby she was told to audition for Coke Studio season 2 as a background singer and it is where she got an opportunity to meet up with the ‘Isukuti Love’ hit maker Mayonde.
Trina was a Daystar University student pursuing Mass Communication before she joined Thread band but had to drop her studies and focus on music first since it was her passion. Trina is currently signed to Tarrus Music and she has recorded one single by the name tonight.
