Kenya is definitely being recognised when it comes to the music industry. It’s not only recognised internationally but regionally, too. We have our own award shows like Groove Awards for the gospel musicians, Mwafaka awards, Kisima awards, Teeniez Extreme awards, Nzumari awards, among others. See, we ain’t that lame.

Our very own boy band Sauti Sol were once nominated for the BET awards, which, if you ask many, is quite a big deal.

Kenya has bagged four nominations in the 2016 edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Awards. Good stuff, right?

Afro-pop boy group Sauti Sol and gospel singer Papa Dennis have been nominated in the African Male Artist (Non-Nigerian/Africa) category.

The two will battle it out against Ghanaian trio of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Bisa Kdei and Liberia’s FA, Deng and Eric Geso. That’s a really tough category but we believe in our own superstars.

Another Kenyan singer, Victoria Kimani, bagged a nomination in the African Female Artist (Non-Nigerian/Africa) category.

Victoria was nominated alongside Tanzanian pop queen Vannessa Mdee, Uganda’s Sheebah Ndiwanjawulo, Lira (South Africa), Efya and MZ Vee (Ghana), Adiouza (Senegal) and Rwanda’s Knowless Butera.

In the African (Non-Nigerian) DJs, Kenya’s DJ Joe Mfalme was nominated against Uganda’s DJ Slick Stuart & Roja, DJ Lebbie (Senegal), DJ Bossman (Liberia), DJ Mensah and DJ Vyrusky (Ghana).

The upcoming 11th edition of the annual event has been slated for September 4, this year in New York City.

We wish everyone nominated the best of luck.
