Khaligraph Jones, Baba Yao or whatever you want to call the boogeyman of Kenyan hip-hop has been around for quite a while. While alot of Kenyan celebrities came onto the scene after their very first hit was a knockout and have since struggled to replicate the success.

Khaligraph Jones started off at the bottom of the wrungs. I can recall watching him and Octopisso freestyle and battle at Wapi, an underground Kenyan hip-hop event that celebrated hip-hop culture hosted by the British Council. I know, my age is showing.

Khaligraph Jones would walk or whatever, all the way from Kayole to get to Upperhill area to come and perform for free because of his love of the art form that is hip-hop.

And he has recalled the first time he hit the stage in 2012 to perform at some random concert and when he started flowing the crowd booed him. The issue at hand was the fact that he does not rap like many believe a Kenyan should.
