Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to spend another night in remand at the Industrial Area Prison pending the ruling of his bond application on Tuesday.

The governor, when he appeared before Justice Jessie Lessit on Monday, denied killing Rongo university student Sharon Otieno.

The charge is that together with others not before court, he murdered Sharon at Owado area in Rachuonyo sub-county, between September 3 to September 4.

The county chief also faces the charge of aiding, abetting, and financing the murder.

He was represented by lawyers Nicholas Ombija, Evans Ondieki, Rogers Sagana, and Cliff Ombeta.

Obado filed an application to be released on bail but Justice Lessit directed that the matter be heard on Tuesday afternoon.

His lawyers also requested for an early hearing date arguing that the governor was arrested on Friday.

But the prosecution led by Jacob Ondari opposed the bail application and applied to have the governor remanded until Wednesday.

The embattled governor spent three 'humbling' nights at the Gigiri police cells following his arrest. There was no VIP treatment for him while in custody.

There was no VIP treatment for embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado who has been in custody at the Gigiri police cells for the last three nights.

He has been eating sukuma wiki and ugali since Friday evening when he was placed in a 20-man cell. He was joined on Saturday by 17 VIPs and two men arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

The photo in our possession taken over the weekend shows Obado was seated alone in an open corner of the compound warmed by the morning sun.

He looked distraught, deep thought, holding his head in his right hand.

A source at the station described Obado as generally quiet, mostly keeping to himself.

The gates to the police station were locked and manned by armed police with orders to bar anyone not authorised by senior commanders.

No vehicles were allowed in the police compound. The governor’s wife and others had to park outside and walk to the gate.

Once inside the police station, visitors were further screened at the report office before being allowed to see their relatives.

Meanwhile, EACC detectives have arrested Migori governor Okoth Obado's bodyguard outside the Milimani law court.

The detectives put handcuffs on John Chacha Alias Mwita Moses Mogaya after taking away his gun.

"He was arrested for using academic certificates belonging to another public officer named 'Chacha' to secure employment," EACC said on Monday.
