Jacque Maribe's lawyer Katwa Kigen painted a clear picture of how jail life is for her.

The TV news anchor is currently incarcerated at Gigiri Police station. However, according to her lawyers it is not a bed of fresh smelling rose petals.

In his application to court, Jacque's lawyer pleaded for reasonable access to the respondent - his client. Jacque appeared before Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku in Kiambu on Monday.

"Since her incarceration on Saturday, it has been very hard to access her. And when access has been given to counsel, your honor, it has been made available in a public space which makes it very difficult for the confidential conversation between a client and her advocate to be conducted," Kigen told the court.

Adding:

"We would also like to say that over that period, there be no more recording of statements or attempts to extract content from the respondent in the absence of her counsel."

He continued, " And I say this your honour because my client has complained that she was under a lot of pressure to admit that she knows one Monicah Kimani. When she emphatically said that she doesn't know her."

Kigen expressed his reservations further, "As her counselor, I am worried that the pressure and incarceration could be in  part because she refused to acknowledge knowing her."

And lastly the lawyer made prayers to the judge to allow Jacque to be placed in a "fair environment".

"When she was under incarceration, people of doubtful circumstances were placed with her in the same incarceration, who kept inquiring from her what she knows about the investigators and what she knows about this case.

The prosecution said that those claims should have being put in the affidavit.

"You cannot speak from the back on this issues," adding that "If they are indeed facts they should be put in an affidavit."

The prosecution sought orders from the court to hold Jacque for 10 days for them to complete investigations.

Maribe was arrested on Saturday after two days of interrogation by detectives.

A source privy to the investigations said Maribe was arrested after investigators recovered some documents, among them a wallet and a handbag believed to belong to Monica at her house in Royal Park, Lang’ata.
