Yesterday Faith Kipyegon lowered her own world record in 1500m with a time of 3:49:04 at the Paris Diamond League.

In light of this wonderful feat, we will look at other Kenyans who have also done the same over the years.

Eliud Kipchoge

Eliud Kipchoge, a long-distance runner, is widely regarded as one of the greatest marathoners of all time. He clinched the Olympic marathon gold in both 2016 and 2020, and held the marathon world record from 2018 to 2023 with a time of 2:01:09 set at the 2022 Berlin Marathon. His record was later surpassed by Kelvin Kiptum at the 2023 Chicago Marathon, with Kiptum clocking 2:00:35.

Brigid Kosgei

Kosgei made history by breaking the women's marathon record at the 2019 Chicago Marathon. She completed the race in 2:14:04, shaving off one minute and 21 seconds from Paula Radcliffe's longstanding record set in 2003.

Beatrice Chepkoech

Chepkoech set a new world record in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the Diamond League in Monaco in 2018. Her time of 8:44.32 was more than eight seconds faster than the previous record of 8:52.78 set by Ruth Jebet at the Paris Diamond League in 2016.
