Mwanaisaha Abdalla, popularly known as Nyota Ndogo has finally made one of her biggest dreams a reality. Considering her life before music, we could all agree that ametoka mbali
We’ve heard of so many people who make promises to their parents but forget them when they become successful later in life. Not Nyota though.
The queen of tarab pop is a class 7 drop out who came from an exceptionally humble background.
“The fact that my father (a drunkard then) was part of a live band that played at Saba Saba bar in Majengo slum estate where we lived while my mother worked as a fish monger made life difficult for the family of six siblings.” she said, while speaking to SDE.
She has also opened up about her past as a housemaid in Mombasa, Nyali for more than 2 years, tand how she also overcame poverty to become a much sought after musician who’s achievements have been recognized by winning several awards.
The “watu na viatu” songbird has won herself two Kisima awards and has been nominated severally for local and Tanzanian PAM awards.
But that wasn’t even her biggest dream. All she wanted was to own a house, which she now does now. She says it wasn’t easy but she had to follow her dream, no matter how much people put her down. She posted a snap of her house and captioned it:
“Nilikua na dream moja ambao nilikua nikisema one day nataka kua na nyumba yangu.unajua ukiwa na ndoto kubwa ukiiwaambia watu watu ukucheka? Basi usichoke kusema ndoto yako hadharani couse unaitaji uko kuchekwa ili kukupe moyo.hili ni jasho langu mziki wangu yes sio rahisi but amini kidogo ukipatacho ukiweka kidogo kitakua kikubwa.”umba yangu.unajua ukiwa na ndoto kubwa ukiiwaambia watu watu ukucheka? Basi usichoke kusema ndoto yako hadharani couse unaitaji uko kuchekwa ili kukupe moyo.hili ni jasho langu mziki wangu yes sio rahisi but amini kidogo ukipatacho ukiweka kidogo kitakua kikubwa.”
The dream wasn’t only about herself, but her dear mother and family too. After the long struggle,Nyota has finally managed to build a house for her mother, a promise she had made to her a long time ago. The confident but humble singer says that though the house is not as big as hers, it was all she could afford and as long as her mum has a house of her own, she is happy with it.
“mungu akikuezesha japo kidogo do it.nilimpromiss my mum nitamjengea hata kama ni nyumba kiasi but nae awe na kwake.nimemchagulia muundo huu.nyumba sio kubwa kama yangu but ndio uwezo wangu.we start tmr inshallah.raha ya mamangu furaha yangu pia.haya tupeane nguvu jamani.”
