Gospel singer Mercy Masika was to hold an event at the Dusit D2, Riverside on Wednesday. According to her team, the event has been called off after the attack at the hotel.

"Mercy Masika was set to launch a new marketing campaign for a soap brand. Sharing the information with media, her team wrote:

As a result of the attack on Dusit Hotel along Riverside Drive, we have postponed tomorrow’s event to a later date. We shall confirm the new date once the brand decided on a date and the situation is more conducive."

Adding, "We would like to express our hope that all those affected by the attack receive the help they require. We stand in solidarity with the rest of the country in this trying time."

This is after the Al Shabaab have claimed responsibility for the attack.

"We are behind the attack in Nairobi. The operation is going on. We shall give details later," Abdiasis Abu Musab, al Shabaab's military operations spokesman, told Reuters.

Vehicles were set ablaze as orange flames and dark smoke engulfed the area.

Recce squad could bee seen moving around the building as others tried to enter and rescue the hostages.

Sirens were heard along Waiyaki Way as panic rented the air.Several people at the building pleaded for help on social media with others contemplating the worst.

Mercy Masika together with Ariel Kenya were to unveil a campaign dubbed Ultimate Guarantee to reward Domestic Managers (DMs). across the country.

Speaking on why the campaign is close to her heart, Masika states:

“We are known to reward people for the efforts they put in improving society but we don’t often recognize the amazing work done by our domestic managers. As part of the Ariel family, we hope to touch the lives of these underappreciated women by offering them various tokens of appreciation.”
