The 2017 Teen Choice Awards were plunged into chaos as it was announced Miley Cyrus, 24, was a last-minute no show.

In a shocking announcement at the beginning of the awards, Victoria Justice came on the stage to reveal honorary award winner Miley Cyrus 'couldn't make it' to the show.

Chris Pratt also didn't make an appearance on stage in the first 30 minutes of the show, but did appear later to accept his award for Choice Sci-Fi Movie Actor.

Many of the other biggest names either sent video acceptances (Bruno Mars, Gal Gadot) or were merely announced as winners (Beyonce, Zac Efron, Ariana Grande).

Miley later released a statement on Instagram saying she's 'bummed' she couldn't make it.

'To my dearest fans & all of those watching Teen Choice Awards! I want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart for presenting me with #The UltimateChoiceAward! I am beyond bummed I couldn't make it to the show as I had every intention of being there to accept and celebrate this honor!'

She gave a brief explanation and used the remainder of the post to shamelessly plug her new single:

'I created an unrealistic schedule for myself which leads me to this announcement! I've been tryin to keep the secret but I can't hide it any longer! My new single / music video #YoungerNow will be dropping this Friday , Aug 18th & I am sooooooo EXCITED to share it with all of you!

'I hope to always make people smile and shine light thru my work! I look forward to making music for the rest of my life and I'm thankful everyday for those who listen! I am sending so much love and peace into the world right now because THATS what we need most! Love Love & more LOVE!'

Initially shocking fans less than 30 minutes into the show, Victoria Justice came on stage and within a matter of seconds dropped the bombshell that Miley was a no-show for the night.

'Unfortunately, Miley Cyrus couldn't make it... but here's Jake Paul,' she announced.

Fans quickly took to Twitter to react to the news that Miley would not be attending.
