Known to many as a hero, Jahmby Koikai will forever be an example who will be used to testify and give hope.
After more than 10 surgeries, many travels and sleepless nights she has still not given up on the fight against Endometriosis. Not just for her but anyone else going through it. This is why Jahmby's advice is:
If a family member or yourself have consistent stomach ache, ask for an ultrasound. If the ultrasound does not show anything demand for an MRI and CT scans. Don't settle for bloodwork then you'll be told its just ulcers. Nope. Pancreatic cancer and stomach cancers are not easily detected but it is killing our people massively. Let the doctor tell you its nothing serious. Ask for further tests especially when it comes to stomach aches.
This is all based on her experience after her grandmother who passed on 3 years ago due to pancreatic cancer was once diagnosed with Ulcers. It wasn't until Jahmby Koikai's grandmother got to stage 4 that the right diagnosis was made but it was too late.
So in two days, it will be 3 years since my grandma passed on. We went through a harrowing time. September 2015, I was diagnosed with thoracic endometriosis and she was diagnosed with severe ulcers, only to be later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer stage 4. Misdiagnosis is killing Kenyans at an alarming rate.
One thing she has always emphasized is that serious stomach pains are not normal. So seek the answers in every way possible and don't settle for less.
