Missy Elliott is making history. The Virginia native will soon become the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The 47-year old, who began her career in the all-female group Sista in the early 1990s, will be inducted in a cermony this summer along with the likes of Cat Stevens, John Prine, Tom T. Hall, Jack Tempchin and Dallas Austin.

Over her career, Elliott has sold over 30 million records in the US, which makes her the best-selling female rapper in Nielson Music history, according to Billboard in 2017.

Even with her success as a group and solo artist, she also lent her rapping and writing skills to everyone from Beyonce to Whitney Houston, as well as the late Aaliyah and Jennifer Hudson.
