On average people spend thousands of shillings trying to get that perfect white smile we always see in the toothpaste commercials.

Turns out you didn't have to go to the dentist all the time to get that smile. You can use natural ways right from the comfort of your home to get it.

First we need to understand why your teeth change colour in the first place. There are certain foods you eat through out the day that stain your teeth. That coupled with poor dental hygiene which leads to the build up of plaque in your mouth makes your teeth look yellow.

1. Increasing your saliva production

Saliva actually plays a role in your digestive system. It helps remove the stains from your teeth and help break down foods in your mouth. So a good way to increase your saliva production is kissing. Yes you heard me right kissing does help make your teeth whiter so go ahead. But if the first method seems a bit to much for you, try chewing sugarless gum throughout the day.

2. Brushing your teeth using charcoal toothpaste

Now don't go picking up charcoal and immediately put in your mouth and star brushing. It has to be certain particles of the charcoal. Charcoal has a structure similar to that of a sponge so it does an incredible job of sucking out dirt and particles. Head to your nearest supermarket and pick one up.

3. Brushing your teeth with baking soda

Baking soda is mildly abrasive so it does a good job at scrubbing out dirt. What you want to do is get a tea spoon size of  baking soda, mix it with water and brush your teeth with it. After 30 days you'll notice the difference.

4. Use an electric toothbrush

Now this one is a little expensive, but getting an electric toothbrush is more of an investment in terms of your dental health. An electric toothbrush does a far better job at scrubbing off the dirt from your teeth than your manual toothbrush will. A bonus point is if you brush your teeth using coconut oil. Coconut oil contains lauric acid  which helps fight inflammation and kills bacteria.

5. Eating more fruits and vegetables

Hard fruits and vegetables such as apples and carrots actually scrub your teeth while you eat them. This helps  remove the dirt on your enamel making your teeth whiter. One of the best fruits to use though is strawberries. Strawberries actually have a compound called malic acid which helps remove that dirt from your teeth.
