She is a solo artist now after her girl group Fifth Harmony broke up.
And Normani proved herself a force to be reckoned with at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The 21-year-old stole the show with an electrifying performance of Love Lies, the song she and Khalid collaborated on for the film Love, Simon.
Normani made her dramatic entrance with purple and blue back-lighting, dancing in partial silhouette in a doorway.
In a flash, she thundered out onto the stage and delivered several twirls before winding up on all fours, showcasing her derriere in a black fringe mini-dress.
Normani performed a bit of the song with two backup dancers before being joined onstage by Khalid, who wore a black and white polka dot outfit.
The pair sat down beside each other on the floor, Normani clutching at Khalid’s shirt as they serenaded one another.
At once, they both sprang up and started moving energetically through the choreography, singing in counterpoint to the end of the song.
Once the number was over, Normani and Khalid melted into laughter and hugged each other onstage as the crowd rapturously applauded.
