The government recently banned the screening of a film ‘The Story of Our Lives’, saying it promotes homosexuality.
The Film’s Executive Producer George Gathara found himself on the wrong side of the law when police showed up at his office and arrested him , for allegedly not acquiring a license to shoot the ‘banned’ film.
Gachara was released on a Sh10,000 bail on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in Kibera Law Courts today.
Gachara was in Toronto recently for the film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. He and others involved in its making and promotion, who until then had been anonymous, made the daring decision to reveal their names at TIFF, in a show of solidarity with the Kenyan LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community.
