Shaggy was tapped to by Rihanna's people who tried to get him to feature on her album. At this point, you can't help but be happy because this means there is a new Rihanna album and also for the fact that she would be working with dancehall legends.

That said and done, however, there was a bit of a snag: Rihanna's people wanted Shaggy to audition for the part.

Jamaican- American reggae singer Shaggy has disclosed that he delined to feature in an upcoming Rihanna’s album because he was asked to audition for the project.

Shaggy 51, says he passed on a chance to collaborate with the “Work” songstress, 31, after he was asked to audition for the hotly anticipated record, according to a new interview.

“They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah,” he told Daily Star. “There’s a lot of great people involved but for me I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys. But from what I hear, it should be good.”

While he may not be working with Rihanna, the musician said he welcomed artists taking inspiration from the dancehall genre.

“It’s healthy competition. Dancehall is in good place, but we need as many people to do this art form as possible,” he told the outlet. “When it crosses over and becomes popular with artists from other genres and other cultures, that can only be good.”
