They finally buried the hatchet on their public feud after Taylor Swift asked her ex-nemesis Katy Perry to appear in her new music video, You Need To Calm Down.
And Taylor has now divulged the details of how they managed to regain their friendship after they began their dispute in 2014 when Katy apparently 'stole' some of her backing dancers from her Red tour.
The pop icon, 29, revealed during an appearance on Heart Breakfast on Wednesday morning that it was Katy that instigated their reunion, after sending an 'actual olive branch' on the first night of her Reputation Stadium tour in May last year.
The Bad Blood hitmaker revealed:
We reconnected a while ago. It started when she sent an olive branch to, like an actual olive branch to my tour – on the first day of my Reputation Stadium tour and I was like, that is not only really cool and really sincere, the note but like, very clever with sending an actual olive branch.
Taylor continued by explaining that the gesture removed any tension and bad feeling from their argument and they decided to put their feud behind them.
She explained:
It was like a beautiful wreath and you could hang it, it was really so great. And so that was when you know I think for both of us it was completely like there was no weird feelings.
The star went on to detail their first meeting after Katy gifted her the olive branch, revealing that it was exactly the same as how it happened in her new music video - just without the food costumes.
She said: 'Everything was on good terms and we ran into each other at a party a while ago and it was literally like in the video, seeing each other but without the food costumes.'
'It was like just fully sincere and full like we’ve realised like we’ve grown up, we’ve grown enough to realise the fact that us feeling pitted against each other for so long really did add to whatever tension we were feeling in our friendship and it’s just a really positive thing for both of us in our lives.'
Taylor revealed that she feels quite emotional when she thinks about Katy in her video, but admitted they had been on 'very good terms' for a while privately before they decided to go public with their friendship.
She told hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden: 'Katy Perry is in the video and she and I definitely have been on very good terms lately but I don’t think anybody knew it.
'We were just kind of reconnecting privately and just wanted to make sure that everything was really good with us and that it was like a very real thing before we let anyone know that we’re not only good but we’re friends again.'
