In April 2016, the world lost a musical legend.
And in a preview clip for Sunday’s upcoming episode of Mariah’s World, Mariah Carey is seen nearly breaking down as she announces Prince’s passing to concertgoers.
The E! reality show will revisit the day the 46-year-old singer-songwriter admitted to fans that she wasn’t sure if she’d be able to continue her performance.
‘I didn’t know if I was gonna be able to make it through this show tonight,’ the We Belong Together songstress began.
‘We lost one of the greatest, most incredible geniuses that we’ve ever had in music.’
Mariah explained that her decision to ultimately take the stage stemmed from knowing that Prince would have encouraged her to do so, rather than wallow.
The mother-of-two went on to open up about her friendship with the Purple Rain singer, which spanned decades.
She said, teary-eyed: ‘He was a friend to me, too. He talked me through some times when I really, really needed somebody.’
To commemorate her late confidante, Mimi asked the audience for a respectful moment of silence, and later on sang the singer’s hit One Sweet Day in his honor.
Prince’s friendship was meaningful to Mariah, and she took his advice above anyone else’s. It was he who convinced Carey to serve as a judge on American Idol in 2013.
Sunday’s emotional episode will also see Mariah getting her final wedding dress fitting ahead of her nuptials to ex-fiance James Packer.
The voluptuous beauty can be seen doting on her daughter Monroe as the five-year-old tries on her matching dress and current boyfriend Bryan Tanaka looks on.
