Rumours have been swirling that Ed Sheeran is gearing up to propose to his girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn, during their trip to Australia this month.

He has done little to quell the reports, having confirmed on a radio show that he's ready for marriage.

Chatting with the shock-jocks on Tuesday's show, the Castle On The Hill singer gushed about his leading lady, saying: 'She lives three or four miles away from me where I grew up. And we live together now, we just got cats.'

When quizzed by Kyle about the possibility of having children and getting married, he responded: 'Yeah, potentially. I would like some kids.'

'So is this a marriage thing?' prodded Kyle, prompting Ed to add: 'I'm pretty... yeah I feel pretty good about it.'

It comes after NW magazine claimed that Ed is preparing to propose to his ladylove, possibly as soon as this week.

A friend of the singer reportedly told the publication that Ed is set to get down on bended knee while the couple are in Australia, where the red-haired star is touring Melbourne and Sydney.

'He's so ready to take the next step with Cherry and couldn't think of a better place to ask her to marry him in Australia,' the friend allegedly told the publication.

Ed recently opened up about his girlfriend during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio.

The crooner knows Cherry from school, and admitted he 'wanted to be a dad' for the past year and is ready to start having 'chubby babies'.

He said: 'This has been the first time I've ever actually had the time to fall in love properly.

When asked if he was excited to become a dad in the future, the Shape Of You singer said he was 'massively' ready.

He explained: 'Massively, yeah. I wanted to be a dad, like, last year. I'm ready, let's go - tour bus babies, little fat, chubby babies that just walk around.'
