Mexico’s rich kids have followed in the well-heeled footsteps of their Russian counterparts by launching a social media page to flaunt their assets.
After the children of Russia’s oligarchs and billionaires set up the ‘Rich Russian Kids’ page on Instagram, the young upper-class of Mexico City have launched a rival page entitled ‘Rich Kids of Mexico’.
The Mexican version has a way to go before catching up, with 66,000 followers so far compared to the Russians’ one million. But they are doing their best.
Most of the posts are hashtagged: #RKOMC (rich kids of Mexico City).
Mexico is regarded as having one of the world’s biggest gaps between rich and poor. Just one per cent of the population earns 21 per cent of the country’s income.
One photo shows Sofia Castro, stepdaughter of the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, walking around New York in a Dolce & Gabbana suit.
Images show people with a variety of weapons, ranging from the authentic looking automatic rifles to water pistols adapted to shoot champagne from the bottle.
