Early last year, Kenyans woke up to sad news that pioneer rapper Kantai had passed on while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kasarani.
He made hit records back in the day and went silent in the music game until back in 2016 when he made a surprise come back in a hit tune, Ting Badi Malo that Khaligraph Jones featured him in. The song received a lot of love because one, we saw Kantai jumping back into the game and two, he was featured by Papa Jones who is loved by many.
When Kantai passed so many people called Khaligraph to get a comment seeing as they worked together and questioned if he made any contributions in the late's support. To which he said it was not really his responsibility but he gathered a few other artistes and came up with some money to help.
When Kantai was being buried, not many celebrities came to the funeral and that became a concern that even Khaligraph was not present. Yet the two has developed a tight bond through their collabo.
Nothing much was revealed until recently when Khaligraph had a candid interview with CA where he addressed the whole issue.
Speaking to Richard Njau from CA, the OG said Kantai’s mother was made to believe he was the one who contributed to his depression that led to Kantai’s death.
"Do you know I was not allowed to attend his burial in Ngong? Apparently this is what was being said about the whole ordeal, Kantai’s mom was made to believe that I am the reason Kantai sank into depression and eventually passing away." Khaligraph said.
He went on to add that rumors then started circulating that he stole Kantai’s way of music and even worse, he did not pay him his dues after their collabo.
“It is said that I am the one who took Chris Kantai’s style and ran with it and now I left him to suffer, instead of helping him out. It is said that I owed him money from the song we did together. That I did not pay him and now he passed away and it is all because of me," added the rapper.
Based on these rumors, Kantai's mum gave directives that Khaligraph was not to be allowed to attend her son's funeral .
The mom gave directives that Khaligraph Jones should never be allowed to attend Kantai’s funeral. That is how it happened. It hurts but, it is what it is.
So many people has called out Papa Jones but he remained silent because he knew not many people are out for his best interest.
