Kenya has amazing hip hop artistes some from way back  like the legendary JuaCali, E-sir and many more.

However a lot of other young artistes have taken up the challenge to fit in the shoes of these legends to get their voices heard.

UnKut the cypher is an event that is meant to bring to life such acts and celebrate the evolution of hip hop music culture in Kenya.

It helps give platform to those upcoming djs, producers, rappers to showcase what they've got as their fans get to enjoy amazing performances.

This is an event that was first organized last December by Miss Ruby who is also a Radio host of Hip Hop Culture alongside DJ Finalkut.

The second edition took part on March 5th at Dream Lounge along Ngong’ Road with over 20 artistes performing on stage.

There were also artistes from the first season of UnKut; Steph Kapela, Dope I Mean, Asum Garvey, Baller 1254 and K Green who came to show their skills one more time.

UnKut means unedited and as Miss Ruby explained she changed C from K not because of the Kardashian effect but to rep Kenyan music. She is all about Kenyan hip hop artistes and fans.

So what was her motivation to come up with this amazing event? Why not just do it on radio?

“Radio has so many restrictions. You can’t curse on air. So initially when I first used the word UnKut, it was for a Hip Hop round-table and I wanted guests to be as raw as possible. Like, talk your sh*t!” Ruby explains.

Some of the djs represented in the house were  DJ Emvy and DJ Candy who displayed their vast knowledge in this genre.

Being a quarterly event UnKut the Cypher season three is coming in June and her aim is to make the show bigger and better than it already is.
