Christopher George Wallace, popularly known as The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls, was one of the most legendary hip-hop artists of all time because of his contribution to the music scene.

On March 9, 1997, the musician passed in the streets of Los Angeles, California where he was to promote his album Life After Death.

The rap icon was then headed to a party with his entourage when he was shot. Biggie was shot four times when an unknown person opened fire on his car.

Today we commemorate 26 years since he passed away in style by revisiting the things that you didn’t know about him. Below are fascinating facts about Biggie Smalls:

  • Biggie attended school with several well-known people in the entertainment industry.

Biggie attended the same school as Busta Rhymes, DMX, and Jay Z. The school is called George Westinghouse Information Technology School.

  • He’s among the artist who did a collaboration with Michael Jackson

Although he didn't collaborate with many rappers, Michael Jackson did ask to work with Biggie on the 1995 song This Time Around.

  • .Tupac bought Biggie his first Rolex watch

Biggie and Tupac had a close friendship before the east coast verses west coast beef. Tupac even went so far as to buy Biggie his first Rolex watch.

  • Biggie was arrested 7 times in his lifetime

His first arrest was for carrying an unlicensed, loaded gun in 1989. Additional arrests were made for robbery, drug sales, and assaulting a few autograph hunters. Nine months was the longest period Biggie ever spent behind bars.

  • Biggie was an A student 

According to some of his classmates, Biggie was a good performer in school. His performance in science subjects was unbeatable as he aspired to become a dentist.

  • He wasn’t the original Biggie Smalls

Calvin Lockhart, a star on stage and screen, had the character name of Biggie Smalls in the 1975 film Let’s Do It Again. This influenced biggie to adopt the name "Biggie Smalls".
