Netizens react to DP Gachagua revealing his first salary
The Deputy President revealed his first salary was Sh. 3230 back in 1989
Netizens have taken to social media to give mixed reactions towards Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's revelation that his first salary was less than Sh. 4, 000.
The Deputy President made the revelation yesterday while making his address at KICC during the launch of the value and principles compliance report 2021-2022 by the Public Service Commission, an event that was presided by President William Ruto.
At this point Riggy G should just stop talking about money, it always seems to go sideways. I know he was just trying to encourage the youth seeing as how things are currently tough but just like his salon money address this one flopped as well.
Riggy G revealed that back in 1989 he worked as a District Officer Cadet and was paid only Ksh 3,230.
He must have forgotten to account for how things were back then and how much 3 thousand was worth.
“I joined the public service on January 16th, 1989 as a District Officer Cadet at a salary of Sh3,230… this is a good beginning, seize the opportunity and learn, and one day, you will be somebody in this country, it is possible,” Gachagua said.
Netizens, however, are calling out the DP for what they term as ignorance noting that 3k back in the 80s and 90's is the equivalent of millions if not hundreds of thousands in today's economy.
