The Kenyan Broadcasting Cooperation (KBC) has finally unveiled Catherine Kasavuli’s replacement weeks after burial.

In an update, the National broadcaster has settled on legendary news anchor Fayyaz Qureishi for the weekend Prime time bulletin ‘Legends Edition’ that used to be anchored by Kasavuli.

Qureishi is not a new name in the media industry and he boosts experience for over 20 years.

He was part of the team that joined KBC back in 2021 at a time the station was revamping its newsroom.

Qureishi joined KTN in the 1990s, co-anchoring the evening news with Kasavuli, and over time, he established himself as one of the familiar faces of prime-time news.

He presently works with Tom Mboya, Shiksha Arora, and John Jacob Kioria on the KBC English bulletin team.

Prior to being forced off television by illness, Kasavuli hosted the Saturday prime-time news.

During Kasavuli’s requiem mass, Qureishi paid tribute to the late Kasavuli as her favourite news anchor.

The two were long broadcasting partners who were at one time the face of KTN.

“I and Kasavuli were paired up for close to 13 years until the point I left KTN in 2005, migrating to the UK,”

Kasavuli's friends and family gathered for a memorial service at the Friends Church along Ngong Road.

Kasavuli was eulogized as a gifted and kind person.

Kasavuli, 60, passed away on December 29, 2022, at the Kenyatta National Hospital after a long battle with cervical cancer.
