Comedian Nasra Yusuf had an encounter that will forever live in her mind.
The international airport serving Mogadishu, the Captial of Somalia, was Comedian Nasra's place to create her latest content with producer J Blessing among others, for an airline she is a brand ambassador.
While the first-time flyer was excited, she found herself in a situation with the law.
"My experience at Mogadishu airport. Wacheni nijichekelee kwanza so this is what happened guys. Tuliland 11:30 or 4o,"
It was surreal for her to be in Somalia her ancestral city.
"I'm excited first of all that eh Im in Somalia you know, and then J Blessing hapa, I blame you because you didnt give me the brief of what we were going to do" she addresses the music video producer.
Nasra continued her narration,
"He just told me we were going to Somalia and mimi as someone who feels that is my ancestral home, I need to go and explore the city you know"
"So tumeland hivi, J Blessing recorded the content I was supposed to shoot. Then he started shooting with all the other cabin crew, the Captain, and the CEO because it was a big thing"
She became idle and wandered off to a section where unfortunately local police demanded she exits the runway and proceeds to the arrivals section.
"The first flight going to Mogadishu courtesy of I fLy so it was a big thing yeah? So J Blessing ako busy na team yake, the whole team wako busy like and the only person who is not busy is *points to self* me because I have already shot my content.
"Haya you didnt tell me Somalia kuna polisi. Me I thought wanaishi tuu kama mandugu coz we love each other my friend, kulikuja polisi I think 6 or 7 walikuwa wanafukuza watu wasee watoke kwa ndege waingie kwa arrivals "
So Nasra said she should have firmly told them the purpose of her visit.
"So me and my softness I told them okay instead of telling them I'm not supposed to go inside"
"I understand *Somali* so I went to international arrivals thinking that maybe I can get a seat inside there and wait for akina J Blessing to finish up then turudi. Hamkuniambia International arrivals hakuna place ya kukaa, you just enter immediately unaingia kwa queu ya foreigners na citizens. That hakuna kurudi tena nyuma mahali mimi nimetoka "
"My guy heh first fo all nikaona citizens an foreigners, mimi automatically nikaassume I was a citizen of Somalia because Im a Somali you guy things are different huku inje "
She was asked to hand over her passport to the counter where she was unable to explain why she didnt have a visa.
She told them she was doing content creation and was not leaving the airport.
This led to a back-and-forth until her documents were confiscated.
"My friend nilizungushwa huku, kwanza they took my passport, nikajua nimeisha I'm going inside. I'm trying to make calls, but no call is going through"
Eventually, they got someone to come to explain her presence in Somalia.
The dispute was settled.
"Hii ni mara yangu ya kwanza kutumia passport na mshaanza kunitesa, anyway long story short it was amazing"
