Former North Imenti MP Hon Silas Muriuki is dead.
Muriuki, born in 1949 in Imenti, Meru County, died at the age of 74.
He passed on while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi over an undisclosed illness.
Prior to becoming a member of parliament, Muriuki worked as a teacher and was the head teacher of a school for the deaf.
He was toppled out of the North Imenti seat in the 2013 elections by Dawood Abdul Rahim who is now serving his third term.
He attempted to reclaim the seat in 2017 but lost to Dawood again. He did not run for the seat in the 2022 elections.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in a message on X platform mourned his death even as he described it as a big loss.
“The passing on of Hon. Muriuki is a big loss not only to his family, relatives, and close friends but also to the people of North Imenti and the nation which he served diligently,” Linturi said.
“May God give the family strength and fortitude at this moment of mourning. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
