US rapper Calvin Broadas aka Snoop Dogg has sent shockwaves around the world with an announcement he has quit smoking.
The legendary musician in a brief note told that he has quit smoking marijuana, a habit he picked up many years ago.
He further asked fans on social media to respect his privacy in the Thursday, November 16 message.
"I’m giving up smoke."
“After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time,” he posted on Instagram and X.
Fans did not appear convinced that the celebrity would suddenly quit.
Their comments in response to his announcement indicated that they were confused, assuring him they would carry on his legacy.
The 52-year-old has a legion of fans who copied his signature style of smoking. and he has been a long-standing advocate for weed smoking, making the drug a significant part of his image and lifestyle during his 31-year career.
He rose to popularity after making an interesting guest appearance on Dr. Dre's 1992 album, "The Chronic." The art on the CD was emblazoned with a marijuana leaf.
Snoop released his debut album, "Doggystyle," in 1993, which quickly made him a household name and cemented him as a top-tier rapper.
Snoop also made a cameo in the 1998 cult hit "Half Baked," about a group of friends who are potheads, which starred Dave Chappelle.
